As far as the European part of WW2, yes it was a joint effort, all we pride ourselves on is turning the tide of that war and helping win it. We know we didn't do it single-handedly. As far as Churchill pushing us into Europe, please get of his dick. We were old allies from WW1 and it was only logical that we would join together once we were pulled into war by Japan. Roosevelt had one eye on Europe the whole time, we knew it was very likely sooner or later we would have to go over there, especially once we saw how inept you were at stoping Hitler. As far as buying Europe in the 40's, how about we saved your economic ass. We don't like to brag until some idiot like you provokes us. Let's not forget that we are only 60 years removed from that war. Let's not forget that the French would be speaking German if not for the US intervention, and everyone in Europe would be speaking Russian if it was for our European nuclear presence after WW2. If you want to know why some Americans brag about WW2, I will give you my opinion. It seems to many people would like to forget what happened. Also it seems we were underappreciated. I'm not knocking other countries that fought and died before we came in and fought along side us. I'm saying it's the "what if" factor. What if we wouldn't have gotten drawn into war? Japan was unstoppable in the Pacific. It's like playing a basketball game and you have Michael Jordan on the bench. You put him in and the team does much better. Sure it's a team effort but credit is given and recognized that without Jordan the team would have lost badly. I think that credit isn't respected by many nations in respect to WW2. I'll give an example, one of many that's occured to me. I was on a train in Germany on my way to France for the weekend. The Scot/Irish man see's me and asks me if I'm American. I say yes, I'm a soldier stationed in Germany. He says "American soldier! You fought all the easy battles in France." I say "Well I wasn't there so I can't say we didn't." He says "My grandfather fought in some of the bloodiest battles in France, and he didn't see an American in sight." I said "well maybe so, but we suffered some heavy losses to in the Black Forest." He says "Not an American in sight around him." I'm a little pissed at this point and say "Well my grandfather fought the Japanese in the Pacific, and he looked left, right, up, and down, and didn't see a Scot or Irish anywhere in the entire Pacific." The guy said "You made your point." LOL A little funny, but maybe that will help to see why we are so quick to defend what our grandfathers did in countries and islands far removed from their homes. Yall are way beyond me on this subject, I am actually learning more here then I did in school. Anyway, the funny part is, most of us Americans are European descendants anyway, we aren't that diffrent, just our leadership is. Everybody is always pointing fingers at each other about who is the bravest and who is a pussy, but the bottom line is we all have bad-asses in our respective military forces and we all have pussies in the forces as well. So who will ever know who would win a war between the EU and US, I would hope to never find out, I dont want to point a gun at my cousin in the azores who is armed with nothing but a rod and fishing lure! No one is putting down the bravery of US forces in WW1 and WW2 We are all aware that Omaha beach was the bloodiest beach and that the sacrifices of US servicemen are greatly appreciated and will always be remembered by every freedom loving European. But we are as patriotic as you, We don't like being called cry babies and pussies or the biggest Joke ever and prefer reasoned argument when presenting a case. I've been in the British Army and served alongside Americans in Germany and the Balkans and don't have an issue with them. They are very effective and totally proffessional. We are too, if considerably less resourced. For information. I never besmirched the endevours of any American soldier and would not. My Father, a British Soldier, fought in WW2 and landed with the American forces on Omaha beach in 1944 so I am aware of the history and sacrifice. Either way, lots of men died fighting for what they believed was right. Don't put us down without a reasonable argument or you force us to respond in an equally unreasoned way. (that's how wars are made)

Hey Man_with_sanity. Which history of the Falklands conflict have you been reading? Is it the Buenes Aires edition? Get your facts right before you blurt off. Check out the map (assuming you know what one is) and note the didtance between the Falklands and the UK. Then look around the geography for friendly countries close by. Ohh, there aren't any are there. Pretty amazing military operation if you ask me. Man_without_sanity more like.

Plus we had to invade an island, fight up mountains, across rugged terrain with nearly no tank or air support (couldent get anything but light tanks onto the falklands, and most of the british airpower was busy protecting the fleet)

I just browsed through the post since I last commented and wanted to address a couple items. ***I only wish USA got beaten economically. And that might not even be necessary: As it seems now, the US economy is about to collapse anyway.*** Actually the US economy is set to have a record year in 2004. Europe aka Eurozone on the other hand is set to have a tough year. To those who do not study economics, you cannot gauge the economy on the strength of the currency. The currency only deals with banks and deficeits. In fact a strong Euro will lead the European economy down if it continues to rise, which it will unless governments intervene. Economists predict the increase of the Euro will drive unemployment well into 11% for Germany. Meanwhile the US is predicted for unemployment to drop into 7%. The strong Euro is bad for bank interest rates, which doesn't encourage new spending, US interest rates are at record lows. All in all, US and Asia are set for an estimate economic growth of 4% in 2004, while most of Europe will grow at only 1%. ***to British Bloke*** I've had the oppurtunity to train with the British Army in Germany. I loved it. I do agree the only difference that seems to separate the US Army with other allies is equipment. I never respected our Army's equipment issued to us until doing NATO training. It was fun though. I traded some cots, which are a hot commodity to Britians, for a couple jackets and lounge chair. What I really traded though were good memories. ***Friendly Fire*** A favorite target but often misunderstood. In a maze of logistics, grid coordinates, being awake for 48 hours straight, and general anxiety, friendly fire does happen. What is blown out of proportion is the frequency that it occurs, especially when it comes to air drops. When we hit the Chinese in the Bosnia affair. The US flew closer to 100,000 sorties. For one bomb to go astray out of 100,000. If you are a statistics guy, you will agree that the margin for error is very slight. Weapons and humans aren't perfect and war is ugly. Mistakes happen, risks are high. We just try to minimize risks and avoid mistakes as we do our jobs the best we can. You used to be the number one world power, and now you're not and you just can't stand it.* I'm sick of this shite... I couldn't give a flying fuck about my country's supposed standing in the modern world. We USED to have the best navy in the world. We haven't now, in fact we hardly have a fucking navy at all. We used to be a big player, we aren't now. Who gives a fuck, not me! Trust me, I'm over it. We have an Army so under resourced and over committed that when we do go to war in support of our Allies we have to beg and borrow kit off them in order to function at a basic level. We are the underweight fighter in the heavyweight ring but that said we can still throw a pretty good punch. This is only because of the resolve of the British soldier on the ground though. Our Government seems to take it for Granted that the British Sqaddie will overcome, purely because he is a British squaddie and he doesn't need state of the art equipment to do it. Our army is still running around in vehicles designed in the 50's for god sake. It's nice to see Americarules and others like him are so appreciative of our efforts. That's the beautiful thing about allies. Working together. Fucking idiot!!

England would be on our side like they always has.Japan would be on our side too.But I'm sure China would back up EU.China has been always close to France.That's what my friend(half chinese half french,believe or not.what knda mixture is that??anywayz.I'm Japanese and British,I guess that's pretty messed up too)told me.The reason why China and France are close is because she said they both hate British and Japanese.And she said that to me to my face.Knowing I'm part Jap part Brit.I don't care.Cuz Japs and Brits are much better warrior than French and Chinese anyway.right~ Tough one.Although i am slightly biased here towards the EU, Take away Britain and Germany and the EU are nothing. Besides, England and germany are 2 of the 4 countries with Eurofighters, much better than raptors of the US of A.
