We arrest them when they commit a crime, but free speech isn't one. As Da_Chicago_Jigalo said, no one here really cares what they have to say. That's the thing about America, we don't "get rid of them, arrest them, hang them, etc." for their beliefs. They have just as much right as any to express their views even if you or I don't agree with them.

Intelligent response by Cheesecake. I too agree that they shouldn't be persecuted for their beliefs - however, when they start burning crosses, and threaten they will KILL member of certain race, I think there should be swift justice meted out against them. Afterall, arson and assault is a felony 'round here, ain't it? Being that Republicans generally take a passive stance on racism, and since the KKK is a racist group, the government just shrugs their shoulders. Technically, they can assemble under First Amendment rights, though.

The most recent incidents I know of that involved the KKK are April 2003: cross burning in a minorities yard....swift justice was administered, all perpetrators recieved 1-13 yrs in prison. Nov 2003: One member of the KKK accidently shot another....charged with a felony. As I mentioned, we don't turn a blind eye when they commit a crime, in fact, that's the only time we pay any atttention to them. Yes, they have more potential to do harm than many other groups, but you can't legally arrest someone for having the potential to do something. If you could, we'd all be in prison.

I think most of them stick arround cause it gives them something to do. They have been envolved with it for so long that if they left they would feel useless and out of place. Kinda like retired folks. No offence.

I think many people here have a serious misconception of the Klan, however. The Southern Poverty Law Center has done a great job making the Klan seem large so they can safeguard their jobs and pocketbooks through the donations of good-hearted people, but estimates place contemporary membership at roughly 2,000 nationwide with 10% of that number being FBI informants. This is hardly a formidable foe. The saddest part about the Klan, however, is not their existence. Nor is it that Southerners are often painted with that wide brush when membership is higher up North. No, the saddest part is that they are evidence that many people such as yourself are opposed to the Freedom of Speech when it does not agree with you.

They're still here because Blacks And Jews are still here. The average black man is much more violent than the average Klansman. Research the statistics. The modern Klan is not a hate group, nor do they persecute blacks. Only moronic wannabe's pretending to be in the Klan do those things. The modern Klan is a White Pride group, similar to the Blacks' NAACP. They believe all races should be allowed to have a support group. Don't believe everything the predominantly Zionist media feeds you. Times change, and so has the Klan. When Blacks exhibit Black pride, it's called progressive. When Whites exhibit White pride, it's called racist? Why the incongruency? Reverse racism. I don't hate other races, I am just proud of my own, and everyone else should be proud of their own race too and not be ashamed to say it. Janine: The "modern Klan" that you speak of is led by a man named Thom Robb who in 1989 became the leader of the KKK and attempted to clean up it's image by claiming that "we don't hate blacks, we just love whites" and by renouncing any and all violence. Do you know how the members reacted to that idea?...They SPLIT OFF from his group and attempted to overthrow him as their leader! Everyone knows what they represent (hate, bigotry, and violence)and the people that join know exactly what they are signing up for. Do you really believe that there is an overwhelming need for a white pride support group?...And if so, do you really believe the best banner to form that group under is one historically known for racism, ignorance, and violence?

Screw the KKK and the Nation of Islam! if we ask the questions why the kkk is still here we must also ask ourselves why the black panthers are still here i wish people would just stay in their country... it's true that they're still out there hiding in the hoods made from their granma's skirts...hiding coz they know they'll be killed by black union...We can't blame our african american brothers for their actions, KKK/NRA or whatever, hope we can decapitate all of em even if some r in the law enforcement... First off, the KKK is not a terrorist group. Their actions are closely watched a curtailed by the government as well as other groups. If they did any terrorism related activity they would be jumped on and thrown into court quickly. They have to watch their step. I'm not defending the KKK by any means, I don't like the bastards at all but the fact is they are not nearly as powerful as most people think they are. They epitomize the dumb, hillbilly, grit most people like to associate with racism and people with that intelligence level can't get things done. They are little threat outside of their own areas (which are growing smaller and smaller). Their membership is dwindling and they are going further and further underground. Eventually they will disappear altogether. All the talk you hear on here and the rest of the internet about the KKK is mostly likely just that. It is probably being done by bored teen boys looking for some excitement by getting a rise out of people. I've known a few KKK members in my time and they would have trouble changing a tire, much less putting together terrorist acts. The ones to watch for are the corporation owners and the political leaders that use their power to discriminate, kill and make life generally miserable for those that have less power than they do, usually minorities. So they have their rights! That's the excuse to let them freely hunt black people and lynch 'em, What? You never seen or heard of missing black people in the south?! You wonder what happens to them? Some police stations in simple counties with their own laws are helping klansmen get away with their deeds by turning their heads. You need anti-racist people to investigate this abolishment, ones like me who hate white bigots!

I loathe the KKK as the slack-jawed yokels they are (and now eternal scapegoats for the Southern Poverty Law Center's lawsuits), but I'm glad the United States has the 1st Amendment, even if it allows people to express particularly odious opinions. I find the temerity of a number of European countries in this regard curious. To my mind, it allows a number of special interest groups and lobbies to further and further circumscribe what can be said at all. Effectively, it could be allowed to indiscriminately shut up anyone who didn't agree with the majority opinion on any issue, such as immigration. Sorry, I'll take the original Enlightenment ideal of free expression over social consensus, even if it allows the village idiots to set up their own talk shows. WinniethePooh: As I explained in my previous posts, we don't let them "freely hunt black people". As far as the "missing black people in the South", do you really believe that every black person that goes missing in the South is a victim of some grand conspiracy orchestrated by the KKK? Members of the KKK are a group of people who collectively live in squalor and are lacking in education. The KKK are neither master criminals nor great masterminds. For this reason, when they break the law, they are easily identified and prosecuted. Furthermore, in the US, kidnapping cases are not handled by the local authorities, it is considered a federal crime. I know you feel as if the people in the US aren't doing enough to stop them, but as FreeSouthron explained, we do keep an eye on them... We can't stop them from talking and that's really all they do.

Seriously, I agree that the KKK is a terrorist group, although I also agree they are entitled to their beliefs, they dont throw on white hoods just to talk about how much they hate black people, they have a vendetta and that is to make life miserable for black people, whether with force or with just plain fear. It's really a subjective question, Jewish groups have the ADL which is a jewish supremacist hate group, blacks have the black panthers and NAACP, whites have the KKK, it depends what tribe you are from.

However they can still march if they get a permit and they can still rally if they get a permit. You see they use the First Amendment and the freedom of speech to express there ignorant ways, they have that right, unfortunatly they choose to abuse it. One reason is that the adults are teaching their children to be like themselves. I feel sorry for the children born into this unnecessary hatred. What choice do they have, once they're old enough to figure it out for themselves some are too brainwashed to think otherwise. How sad.

Voted : They're apparently not all that dangerous Hardly anyone belongs to any 'klan' any more.. They are merely a curiosity left over from the past, they have no power or influence any more. They cause a little excitement locally from time to time, but it's over quickly and doesn't amount to much. They probably do have a right to exist and enjoy each others company. They have every right to prefer and support their own people, it is normal and good to protect your own people, in this case White humanity. The klan is at least colorful and controversial..!
