I think French sounds really ugly, like you're continually clearing your throat or hawking up a lungie. Personally I would love to be able to speak italian- it sounds so pretty! I want to learn it so I'll be able to speak it when I go. FYI, I am fluent in english and spanish and I know a lot of french. But man Italian is just awesome. Greek would come in handy too, that way when I cruise the mediterranean I'll be all set.

Well, not all Canadians speak english either. But almost all Canadians can speak english and/or french. It is true that around 18% cannot speak english....

By the way, it is reported that over 35% of Canadians can speak french as a first or second language, so this surpases the 1/5. Native french speakers are a little less than 1/4
I wish the English would speak English.
;-) lol

`rican, the whole world should be made speak `rican
No votes on Chinese? come on...but Most people want to speak Japanese? Is it because of the infuence from the Tom Cruise's movie "The WHITE Samurai"?
** karma **
I don't think learning Japanese has anything to do with "The White Samurai". Many schools teach basic Japanese, so of course people get interested in the culture. There is plenty of Japanese influence on Western technology and entertainment as well. China simply isn't as "cool" in pop culture. But neither is the Philippines, and I don't care.

Whoops! I mean "The Last Samurai". Sorry 'bout that.

i didnt know "canadian"was a language.aye.
i wish i could learn french but its difficult.spanish is fairly easy to learn and i also am dabbling in a little german because i am a little german.i used to live with a swedish family in chicago and so i picked up on a little swedish.

Greek, Hebrew, Arabic, Avestan (language of Zoroastrianism), Sanskrit (language of the Vedas and Hinduism), Japanese, Korean, Tamil, the languages of the Inuit (Eskimos) of the North American Arctic, Irish Gaelic (my dad's Irish). I've studied Russian before but I need to take it up again, since I really want to work in some sort of bilingual service with new immigrants, etc. (Russian and Arabic are two of the fastest-growing languages in the USA).
LudwigVan- WHat is this guy talking about? Japanese, Korean, and Tamil have nothing to do with the Inuit. Tamils live in Sri Lanka and India not in the artic. Same with Japanese and Korean.
Liwil, read it again and notice the punctuation this time (that's what it's for). How on earth did you read it that wrong?
Mandarin Chinese. I know a smattering, but it is slow going.
Fluent in American English, Spanish, three forms of sign languages American Sign Language, Mexican Sign Language and Pidgin Signed English. I know Russian alphabets, but still rusty. I'd really like to learn Italian, German, Japanese, Chinese, French, Irish Gaelic and Russian.
I speak English, Chinese, French, and Spanish. I would like to learn to speak Japanese. I also want to improve my Chinese reading and writing skills.
I am half filipino but my mum was raised as speaking one of the dialects. But thought I should know Tagalog(main language) & didn't teach me because she thought she would confuse me with saying the dialect words instead.
hola
Esperanto -- I could see how that could come in handy.
