They should own hunting rifles and handguns, however any weapons such as assault rifles or any weapon that was purely designed as a weapon against humans shouldn't be allowed it's just common sense. Funny. I myself have never seen a gun discharge on its own before. It doesn't make a difference whether the firearm is a .22 pistol or a 50cal fully auto. Its the person that does the damage as the gun just serves as the instrument. The assault gun argument is worthless!

America kills 130 per million people per year (with guns) compared to 3.4 people per million in Australia. That's 40 times as many. I think the answer is obvious. I want gun registration, so that I know exactly who has a gun, so I can keep me and mine as from them as . Guns have an awful tendency to kill those who are ... There should definately not be blanket restrictive gun-control laws. I agree certain people should not be allowed ownership such as criminals,mentally unstable etc. Also certain types and models of firearms should not be allowed, but I am a big supporter of personal freedoms, especially in the form of legal gun ownership. It's my guess that probably 99% of the people who are against gun ownership have never owned or shot a gun. For instance, take doen5167, he has no clue that a Colt AR-15(the assault weapon) is semi-automatic, and except for cosmetic differences, is no different from guns(the ones he calls 'hunting rifles') that can be bought from other firearm manufacturers. So where's the 'common sense'? Is he telling us that just because a firearm looks 'bad', it should be banned? Doesn't sound like 'common sense' to me. Now, if he were talking about fully automatic(assault) weapons, he might have a point. These are Class 3 firearms, and are very tightly regulated. You have to obtain a Class 3 Firearms License, and you are thoroughly investigated and scrutinized before you can get one. I believe doen5167 thinks that all so-called assault weapons are Class 3 weapons. Guns are made for one thing only, "Kill other people". Allowing people to own guns is the same as giving them a license to kill. Where do you get your figure of 130 million? I'd like to see the source. Because that's more then 1/3rd the total population of the United States. And guns in the hands of responsible people are not deadly. They're protection. As for the government protecting me. I'd rather they didn't too heavily. Yes I want criminals off the streets but I don't want to see police every 10 feet asking to see my government issued ID. Yes, we should all learn how to shoot accurately Sure. Gun ownership should be MANDATORY. It's been tried. In Switzerland every male citizen between age 20 and 50 is required to keep a machine gun or pistol and ammunition for it in his home. {Those younger, older, and female are allowed to do so.} The result: Switzerland has practically no crime, and has been just about the most free, prosperous and peaceful country in the world for 7 straight centuries. Get a clue! why not take away knives and pointy objects while we are at it. someone could probably kill someone with a pencil.. we should have pencil control!
