[+] serious ballot by Steelhamster

This sort of follows on to a previous poll I made about church and state. The consensus of opinion seemed to be that church and state should be and remain seperate.

Given that, should the phrase 'Under God' be removed from the American Pleadge of Allegeance?

Yes
No

They added it back in the 1950s to make us look better than the "Godless Russkies". This was of course a contributing factor in our winning of the cold war as promised by the prophets. LOL!

God isnt offensive, but some of his PR people are.

I think the entire pledge should be removed.

Think about it: A PLEDGE of Allegiance?!? Isn't this something we expect from dictatorships?

Cathexis, I've wondered that myself. But I think in some ways it is good to teach children early on to feel "united" by their country and saying the Pledge does that. Take the God out though.
separation of church and state...
No, because I mean, arent we really under God??

mag: I dunno ... there has to be some less Nationalistic means of doing this, I'd hope.
The pledge is a form of brainwashing that you'd expect in a dictatorship. Kind of like saying a prayer. Get rid of the whole thing.
I think it should be replaced by the song "United We Stand, Devide We Fall", and if our backs should ever be against the wall, we'll be together, together you and I.
I think it should be changed to "One nation under money" In money we trust.
heh heh good point manofletters. It would certainly fit the U.S., wouldn't it?
Ooooh you ALMOST said, 'Go Back To Russia' lol.
Why was it added in 1954-56 in the first place?
if you dont like god take your commie arab dick suckin ass to iraq ass hole
On behalf of the downtrodden, we should change it to "Under-Dog"..!!
Remove the ENTIRE pledge. It's a piece of socialist shit written in 1892 by socialist shithead Francis Bellamy. The words "under god" weren't even in the pledge until 1954. That Bellamy didn't consider them important enough to include, even though he was an ordained Baptist minister, ought to tell you something. Anyway, a free people don't owe allegiance to a piece of cloth. And to the little bitches who get the dicks out of their mouths long enough to squeal, "If you won't say the Pledge, go to Iraq/Russia/Afghanistan/ I say, "Baby girl, I'll leave as soon as you can show me a bill of sale making this entire country your private property, because that's the only thing that would give you the right to revoke my U.S. citizenship. Now, do you swallow?"
Replace the words 'under God' with the word "underdog'..! ..one nation, underdog, invisible, with liberal trees and just-is for y'all..!"
** karma **
Steelhamster, why don't you worry about your own country's politics before you start getting involved in ours.
Jenny17 perhaps you've been reading the History books they pass out to students in schools and not what this country was really founded on. Money, freedom from persicution and religeous freedom.
Yes that's right the freedom to believe as you choose. Even if it means not believing in your God or any diety at all. Intollerance is what sent people away.
I think it should be taken out because no specific religeon should form a system of government. But then there's the whole bible thing in court of course.

Our government was origianlly setup so the people could have freedom of religion. Our government did that, UNDER GOD.
ww: It is the height of arrogance to try and associate any nation with God ... there is an implication that the Nation is divinely guided and thus above question.

Which, as history so frequently demonstrates, is foolish.

Anonymous: That'd be mine.
