I have heard that there is a possibility that Karl Rove's controversial speech was misquoted. One alternate that I have heard reads:

Conservatives saw the savagery of 9/11 and the attacks and prepared for war; *a few liberal extremists* saw the savagery of the 9/11 attacks and wanted to prepare indictments and offer therapy and understanding for our attackers. (Emphasis is mine.)

IF this is true, does this change your perception of Rove's statement?

Yes

When the man who signs your paycheck stands up and says, before crowds, "I'm a uniter, not a divider", and then does nothing while one of his chief strategists/advisors proceeds to say something thoroughly divisive...

I admit: I am skeptical and suspect Rove is revising history to do damage control.

Weird. I saw/heard the speech on C_SPAN. I shouldn't believe my lyin' ears.
either way it's a cheap shot, assuming there were only two views about what happened and what we should do about it, as though there were no other alternatives to war than sympathy for the enemy. It divides Americans and portrays them as having very simplistic responses to a complex event. Anything and everything Karl Rove says is suspect. "a few liberal extremists" hah - in Karl's mind all liberals of any degree are extremists.
No American, no American, was anything but outraged at 9-11!

Immediately after 9-11 we were as united as America has ever been. And for some lapdog of a pseudo-jounalist to try to wring political advantage from this is more than sickening -- it turns the soul.

Karl Rove is a cheap, disgusting fat little man with a black heart.

^Fully agreed.
but that is not true, i saw him on tv and he did not say any thing about a FEW EXTREMISTS he said LIBERALS.

i do believe that what he was trying to twist is that level headed people were tryiing to figure out exactly who and why before we sent and army over there to just randomly attack anyone who 'looked' like a terrorist.

understanding your enemy is not sympathy for him, it's figuring out HOW to fight him instead of just jumping into a say...viet nam.

weebles: Thanks for the verification -- I suspected this was more spin, but was hesitent to base perceptions on something unverified.
