False, the word 'babies' gives the impression of sentience, up till 28 weeks there is no medical evidence that this is present. My opinion is this: I loathe abortion, but it is **sometimes** necessary. I dont think it shoud be 100% illegal but, 1.6 million a year is crazy. 45 MILLION since '73 is INSANE. Thats the equivalent of roughly 1 out of every 6 people you know murdered. Abortion is NOT birth control. i can't speak for johhnyreb, but the correlation for me is clear: more babies are being killed. certain users can use their sick and twisted rationale to say that they are "not cognitive beings" or some such shit, but the fact is, they are killing babies. not a fetus. but a living creature that grows and needs nurisment and all the elements that encourage life. these same sick minded people will protest against war for all the "lives" lost, but yet are strangely silent when it comes to defending the most fragile of life -- a baby. how can that be justified? it cannot in my opinion. add to that the fact that a huge percentage of these people used abortion as a method of birth control. how can that be justified. i believe a report came out in the uk recently that said that not only were the number of abortions on the rise, but the ratio of women that had at least 3 - 4 increased in double digits. come on. how can anyone defend that in major developed countries? even if you could justify it in the third world, maybe on an extreme leve it could be argued that in the third world, they have no choice. in the developed world, given that you can get a codom anywhere, given that in many countries there is the morning after pill and given that a 15 year old girl can get a prescription for the pill, using abortion as a means of birth control is sick. there's also abstaining. thoroughly modern women and men certainly know about that option...at least until one of them can make sure they are using contraceptives. wait! unless most of these abortions were due to rape. surely that must be it. i doubt it. Steel's "cognitive being" theory means its okay to kill newborns and senile old people. yes it does. using steelhamster's logic, it would seem acceptable to put down old folk who could not longer form coherent thoughts, feed themselves, etc. likewise, i guess he means that it is okay to do so to mentally impaired kids too. so steel, you advocate killing a baby at full term if it were discovered he or she was going to be a vegtable? and also, the taking of old people off to some old folks killing factory. odd, i seem to recall reading a certain germanic leader thinking the same way. odd even more, i think you've labeled herzog to be like that same germanic leader i'm thinking of. hmmm, very interesting. i gotta hit the hay. i've read through the hamsters comments and lets just say that in my opinion, he has an over-inflated sense of his own wisdom. the words bitter, doubting thomas come to mind. no offense hamster, but dude, you and i should not engage. sorry, no hard feelings. I am also a proponent of euthenasia, I personally do not want to be kept alive artificially if I have no mind left and have to be fed by a tube. The same thing if I had a terminal disease, would you let someone suffer in pain just because of your moral objections to their being humanely put to sleep? If the patient is of sound mind and requests through a living will that they do not wish to live in a vegetative state or die in pain then their wishes should be granted.

Obviously false. Mobsie don't doubt it look it up if you don't believe it and johnny i think ur awesome :) OK, my personal belief is that if it has a heart beat, it is a living organism. To inflict an act upon another life, by stopping that heart from beating is in my opinion murder Euthenasia, if legalised, would only be carried out in the presence of a living will, a baby does not have this luxury, its fate is decided by the selfish parents who could not be bothered to consider the concequences of their actions BEFOREHAND. I read somewhere, im sorry I cant remember which site, but it said that 23% of abortions are carried out on medical grounds or due to rape, the other 77% were simply unwanted pregnancies, this second figure, in my opinion is totally unacceptable. True which shows how wrong abortion is. First off i would just like to say i am probably not as old as you people so if i should a little bit immature don't criticize me lol .. Second I don't believe that at the time these babies are killed they are not a human life .. You have two forms a soul and a body and even though the body is not developed yet at the time the abortion is commited the soul is there since the moment of conception .. Please don't yell at me for my opinion and I'm not degrading anyone who has had an abortion but i could never personally kill my child and live with it .. at least i could give my child a chance at life and give it up for adoption ..

Do the same people that disagree with abortion find it wrong to kill a plant? There is no way I could ever get an abortion, but I don't look down on women who do have them either. I am glad I had my son, even though I was young and all that stuff.. it was ment to happen, I can't have anymore kids now so I enjoy the one I have!

I don't beleive it should be used for birth control either, but in circumstances like rape, I beleive it is necessary, also.. birth control sometimes fails, condoms break.. this is America,Century 21, no woman should be FORCED to give birth!!
