My new mission in life

entry #7. posted on 10:03pm Aug 05, 2009 - mood: concerned

I have a new mission in life. When I see a fair skinned person going about in the sun with their skin unprotected, I let them know that due to the ozone layer depletion, the sun's rays are much more deadly than they were as little as twenty years ago and I tell them what happened to me. Last week, I lost my right ear to an oncologic surgeon because of a melanoma. It started out as a tiny white bump. My dermatologist thought it was a keratosis and froze it. The next week it grew back and he took a piece for a biopsy. The results came back showing that it was a very rare white melanoma, the worst skin cancer you can get. This cancer does not attack the skin as a colored melanoma does. It grows downward into the lymph glands. The surgeon removed most of my ear and cut an arc from over my ear to under my chin for lymph samples. The result of the lymph sampling showed that we got the all the cancer out in time. I am clean. This specific cancer (amelanotic melanoma) is one hundred percent due to sun exposure. This cancer carries with it up to an eighty-percent mortality rate due to its very speedy metastasizing and because it masquerades as a harmless keratosis and can go undetected until it is too late.

I encourage the people I talk with to wear more sun protective clothing or use sun block. I do not just go and look for people to accost with this. I talk to them if they are next to me and seem amenable to chat. I am little shy at doing this and so far have only talked to two people. One gal I spoke to said she would wear a hat from now on. If I can help at least one other person not to get what I got, I would be very pleased.

Oh, on September 2, I have an appointment with a plastic surgeon who will put together a new ear for me from somewhere else on my body.

Howard the Duck!

entry #6. posted on 9:18pm Apr 25, 2009 - mood: happy

My SO has been trying to obtain a Howard the Duck DVD for a long time. The problem with the DVD's is they were only made to be played on Asian DVD players and any DVD for American players was pirated. WELL...George Lucas has finally given permission to have Howard the Duck authorized for the American market. So--Howard the Duck DVD's for American DVD players are now for sale on Amaon. $9.00

Finally, snow in Las Vegas

entry #4. posted on 10:57pm Dec 17, 2008 - mood: happy

It always snows in the hills around Las Vegas, but snow almost never reaches the city. So when I woke to a freeing 36 degree downpour today, I figured it would be the usual, dreary Las Vegas winter. No sooner had I had those thoughts and the snow came down so fast and fluffy and thick, I could not see across the street. It snowed like that all night and day and, today, my neighborhood looks like a crystal fairyland. This broke a record for snow in December in Las Vegas. It snowed 8 inches in Anthem in one day. For Las Vegas, that is a lot of snow. It feels so...what am I trying to say?...so Christmassy! Merry Christmas everyone!

Not pleased with myself because...

entry #3. posted on 10:20pm Mar 30, 2008 - mood: drunk

in three days, I finished a half pound box of Panda brand black licorice. I hope I don't do that again anytime soon. It's like Turkish Halvah. Once every two years is enough for me. I am drunk with licorice, actually stoned or pebbled. Licorice has been found to be a mild narcotic.

licorice makes my mouth numb
it reminds me of the numbing sensation of novacaine when you go to the dentist. and since I hate going to the dentist, I rarely eat licorice :)

subject: This bothers me a little about myself...

entry #2. posted on 2:43pm Mar 30, 2008 - mood: sad

Sometimes I think my ballots are too much about myself. I think that could get tiring to other users, as their balloits are more external, about the world outside themselves. But then again, I am very creative, I acknowledge that, and most creative people live quite inside themselves. Still it bothers me a liittle to think I might become irritating to some other sincere user.

I have a tendency to be very self-absorbed
In here and on other forums, I often turn threads into subjects that are "all about me." Overall you don't come across as someone who's self-absorbed to me.

I
enjoy your ballots, I make a lot of ballots about myself, probably more than not, but they are usually about my experiences in life or I'm asking a question or advise. I don't get tired of your ballots, I think they are very interesting, I actually like more than some of the ones on politics and such.

larrynelmira responded :

advice I mean
I also meant I like your ballots more than some about politics and such, I didn't mean more than your ballots on Politics, but those made by other users on politics and such.

Hope you know what I'm trying to say, I just reread and I'm not sure I even do. :)

messageI love to write poetry. Someday I would like someone to want to record one of my poems and make it into a song. If people heard one of my poems and derived joy from it, I would consider my life well lived.
