Government oppression and involvment in the economy mostly.
Look at zimbabwe, they were doing alright, not great but they were stable and relatively prosperous. Then the government decided to fix things, and now they are in a massive famine.
North Korea vs South korea, same culture, both started from the same point, being bombed out by the japanese, one is prosperous one is poor (the poor one has the greatest mineral wealth, so they have no other excuse for their poverty).
glass,plastic,9-5 ... a strange and highly specialized animal we are and still evolving and as such the bottle neck is full of the most elaborate twists and turns .... now go back to your little show and do what you do because too much thinking will set you apart and make you weird or something
