IS MORALITY THE SAME EVERYWHERE?

[+] serious ballot by contragrain

Voltaire--Francois Marie Arouet--is one of history's most quoted persons. He is also remembered for his agnosticism, and unrelenting tirade against any organized religion. Nonetheless, I submit the following saying from Arouet for your consideration. Do you agree or disagree?
"All sects are different, because they come from men; morality is everywhere the same, because it comes from God." --Voltaire

I absolutely agree.

Voted : I mostly agree.
but what most people consider "moral" actually doesn't have anything to do with actual real morality.

Voted : I absolutely disagree.
urrr no - not at all - it's not even worth explaining.
Voted : I mostly disagree.
It depends on whether or not you consider morals to be innate or learned--assuming you consider innate characteristics as being descended from "God". It also depends on how basic you want to get with morality. For example, at what point does our aversion towards human death become a result of socialization and not simply an instinct? At self-preservation? At killing? At murder?

But I mostly disagree with Voltaire, because I think he's referring to more advanced morality such as theft or dishonesty. Moral standards such as these are certainly not the same everywhere. For the most part humans created morality, and it is impermanent.

Voted : I mostly agree.
Right and wrong are the same everywhere. However, the propensity to do right/wrong clearly is not.
Voted : I absolutely agree.
There's an underlying universal ideal.
thc2883 - so because it's right for women to cover themselves from head to toe in some places... its right for that to happen everywhere? Every women who doesn't cover up is just showing no propensity to do the right thing?

Voted : I mostly disagree.
here are those who believe that love between adults and children is not only acceptable, but should be nourished and encouraged. That ain't morality in my book. There are those who believe that money, and the pursuit thereof, is equally acceptable. IMO, couldn't be father off the mark...
But those people are simply Wrong. No matter what their minds think is moral.
I repeat-
"but what most people consider "moral" actually doesn't have anything to do with actual real morality."
It is not "moral" for momen to cover up from head to toe just because they're women. It also wasn't "moral" for holy churchy types to burn men on crosses.
That's why it's right what he said, morality does not just come naturally from people.

It is all about right and wrong.

Murder is wrong, genocide is wrong, lying is wrong, stealing is wrong, etc. These are the same everywhere (to name a few examples). Basic morality is the same and should be.
Voted : I mostly agree.
What is right/wrong is the same everywhere, what is percieved as right or wrong varies greatly by the region.

For instance: bludgeoning women to death with rocks for the crime of being raped is wrong everywhere, but in some places it is incorrectly deemed the height of morality.

^So who determines what is right or wrong "everywhere"?
Murder is wrong - except in places where there is the death penalty

Mr_Susan
Not everything can be placed into the bins right or wrong. It's neither right nor wrong to drink Pepsi or wear Coach shoes.
