IS IT POSSIBLE THAT MARY TODD LINCOLN SHOT HER HUSBAND, PRESIDENT ABRAHAM LINCOLN?

yes or no : crime :
[+] ballot by RunsWithScissors

Would anyone (especially a man in the 1860s) in their right mind try to kill the President of the United states with a one shot small pistol normally carried by a woman? Six shooter revolvers existed in the 1860s and if one were to plot to kill a President, one would logically have more than one bullet in the barrel.

Mary Todd Lincoln, like many women in Washington during the American Civil War carried a derringer....But Mary Todd also owned a derringer with a white pearl handle.... that fact is in the National Archives.

Lincoln was shot on the left side of his head and Mary Todd was left handed. Mary Todd was barred from attending the funeral and two armed guards made sure she did not leave her room for 10 days after the shooting ....that fact is in the National Archives.

Mary Todd Lincoln was denied the normal customary widowers pension three times by the U.S. Congress (Today the pension is automatic).

Mary Todd like so many high society persons in Washington D.C. during the 1860s was an opium addict... that fact is in the Library of Congress. Her drug supplier also was a part time actor who doubled for the real full time actor John Wilkes Booth when he had multiple appearances on the same day in two different cities.

I almost wanted to say O.J. Simpson.

Not a big fan of trying to rewrite history 150 years removed.
^So you're going to just accept what the government or history books tell you? Do you also believe that Lee Harvey Oswald acted alone in killing Kennedy? And the same goes for MLK. Was it some random person acting alone, or was there some other conspiracy?
Voted : John Wilkes Booth
I read that Mary and Abe loved each other, and Booth was upset about emancipation, which seems like a motive.
Voted : John Wilkes Booth
I don't think there's enough evidence for me to believe otherwise. A couple of things about the gun doesn't add up either.

I'm sure a lot of people wanted to kill Lincoln over the whole civil war thing.

I don't think Mary Todd Lincoln would have had the kind of emotional breakdown she did if she had had a part in it. Yes, guilt can make a sensitive person crazy, but her breakdown does not seem to have been the result of guilt. What would she have gotten from it anyway? She spent the remaining years of her life in misery.

Apparently somebody thought she was guilty.

For now, yes. Show me absolute conclusive evidence of otherwise and I'll gladly change my mind. "What if" conspiracy theories are way too easy and far too numerous.

Voted : John Wilkes Booth
Recent evidence has come to light which suggests that Lincoln was terminally ill with cancer and would have died within the year had he not been shot.
If I remember right, Mary Todd was a little "touched", as they used to say back then, long before Lincoln was assassinated. I'm sure the opium didn't help. I think it was her decision to not attend his funeral because she was so heavily grief stricken. Knowing her condition, those around her supported her decision.

I'm almost sure the armed guards where probably there to protect her more than anything else. If a relative insider (at least as much as Booth was then) were to kill a president today, you can rest assured that his spouse would not be left alone without constant guard.

The matter about the pension though, I've honestly not looked at yet. There could be numerous reasons why it could be denied.
