COMMENTS:
According to Mayan mythology there have been five worlds, and we're currently living in the fifth. It also claims the fifth world began in 3114 BC. The only problem is, indisputable geological evidence proves the Earth is in fact 4.5 Billion years old. So, I imagine I'll welcome in the winter solstice with a nice spliff, maybe order out; I won't abdicate a perfectly good day to baseless fear mongering.

The Mayan system wasn't constructed to the scope of recording epochs and ages in geological time. That is superfluous to it's purpose. However it is capable of more extensive expression of time to include ages. It wasn't intended to be predictive of the fate of the world. The long count calendar will "run out" after 5,126 years (or, at least, it's first cycle does). And then what? The same thing we do, make another long count, good for the next 5,126 years. In the interim, I'm going to sit here drinking this fine Bourbon (Bids'ness as usyal, as the hillfolk say) and watch fools run amuk in panic. lol

the Myans couldnt even perdict their own demise, I doubt they can perdict mine.
^ ^ Yes but I'm not talking about the calender am I? I'm talking about the larger paradigm to which this tenet belongs, mayan mythology; to assert otherwise would be taking my original comment out of context.
Sorry Bro, Wasn't concerning you. I was making a general comment about the doomsayers rush to conclusion asserting that termination of the long count cycle means annilation of the planet. My point is, a widely-accepted school of thought holds that in the Maya long count system 13.0.0.0.0 marks the beginning of a new cycle, but that doesn't necessarialy mean all things are distroyed and created anew. I liken it to saying, "Oh my, this calander ends December 31st, that will be the end of the world", rather then consider the new year (cycle) begins and life goes on as usual.
To sit tight and wait for the next Doomsday Deadline to be set after 12/12/12.
