I'll ignore that comment, seeing as how Cubans are the most successful, least criminal Spanish-speaking minority in the United States.

OK now that I got some votes in, I'll tell you the answer. When the Spaniards invaded Cuba, they killed every Native Cuban Indian to the LAST ONE! Therefore there are no Cuban mixes. The Indians were completely exterminated in Cuba and all white Cubans have always been of pure Spaniard blood ever since. (Except for the ones who bred with black slaves, but those are the mulatto Cubans, and they don't tend to intermix with the white ones; native Cubans tend to be quite separatist.) So your answer is:
Since Cubans are of pure spaniard descent, they are not hispanic.

Which is why Cubans are as likely as not to have light hair, skin and eyes. My own family is predominantly blonde, blue or green eyed, pale-skinned Cuban on my mother's side. The "Cubans" you see portrayed on TV and in the movies are usually played not by actual Cubans, but by Hispanics such as Mexicans, Puerto Ricans and South Americans. Hence the dark hair, skin and eyes stereotype. If you see an Indian-looking Cuban, you know he's not pure Cuban.

The recent arrivals, post-Mariel (early 80's) are indeed a bunch of goons. They have been indoctrinated by Castro's communism even if they don't technically agree with it. I do not agree with Jannine. I know plenty of cuban people and if I was to call them white they would beat my ass. Besides don't most white people consider themselves European? i.e. German, Irish, Dutch....ect ect ect? Never have I heard a white person say they are cuban. I consider cubans hispanic. Spain is not a white country. Never was.
They are a TOTAL mix. The Spanish part of them is an admixture of Iberian Celt, and Moor (arab). On top of that, they have for centuries mixed blood with Blacks and/or indigenous Carib Indian, and S.American indians, too. Seeing as the natives came from Asia across the Bering Strait, that would make most Cubans Celt/Arab/Negroid/Mongols. Huh.
Even though Cuba's indians were exterminated, they still came to Cuba from other nearby islands. And, IMHO, the Mariel boatlift was the greatest thing Castro ever did. Your country invaded his, so in response he emptied out the prisons and psych wards, and sent them to his enemy. You shouldn't have invaded in the first place. Castro did what was best for his little island nation, and kudos to him for doing it.
Castro is a totalitarian dictator who deserved to get invaded because he pulled a bait-and-switch on all the Cuban voters anyway. But he IS a fucking genius, and I must say his fucking Mariel wave was a crafty little move to fuck us over.

In the Batista years, Cuba was America's Whorehouse. It's people were subjugated worse than they are under Castro's regime(which itself has many faults). Organised crime and political corruption were the order of the day. Thousands of women and young girls were kidnapped, raped and sold to slavery by the mob. At least Castro instituted the rule of law.If it were not for the ridiculous, anachronistic Helms-Burton Law, and the resulting embargo, Cuba would be doing just fine. Let's she how much you know. First, Cuba is a country and therefore has nothing to do with race. Second, Caucasian is generally defined as a light skinned race, while hispanic is an ethnicity or culture. Cuba consist of people of all races--cacasian, negroid and mongoloid (overwhelming majority are negroid and caucasian with blending going on all the time) Nearly everyone in Cuba participates in the hispanic culture.

The directory defines Hispanic as people of Spanish speaking background. Even though, Spanish, French and Italian are made up of Romance languages, but Italians and French are not Hispanic.
Accept it that Cubans are mulatto because the websites show that Cubans are 50% mulatto. This means of every 100 people, 50 people are of negroid.
Whether you believe it or not, I don't care, but my grandma has this fragil "scrape book" that have been passed throughout the generations. It is a family tree which shows that my ancestors arrived to Mexico in 1581 and moved up north in 1598 settling in present day Texas and New Mexico.
Spain is a Spanish speaking country and therefore, they are Hispanic regardless of skin color.
All my whole family and relatives are light-skinned with obvious European features-we're all light skinned. My sister is the only "anglo" in my family. She has blonde hair, thin nose/lips, much lighter skin and blue eyes. My nieces have auburn hair and my brother has light brown hair and very little blonde. I've been mistaken few times as an Italian. We're still Hispanic because we do speak Spanish, but we also speak English fluently.
So if Cubans speak Spanish, you're part of the Hispanic group. There is no "Check box if you're of Cuban nationality". I don't care. Cubans are denying that they're part Europeans and blacks.
There're enough records to show that the Spainards enslaved both the Native American (of the islands) and also brought the Africans to the islands. I suggest you really read more before you disagree. It's written record so it's a facts!!
In case you didn't know, Christopher Columbus didn't really discover North America, he arrived to what is present day Dominician/Haiti and including Cuba. Afterwards, the next few Spanish conquistadores brought the Africans and that's why there're higher numbers of blacks on these islands I mentioned. So Cubans are mulattos meaning "European of black descedents".
Puerto Ricans are of same backgrounds as Cubans. Europeans of black descedents.

Being a white Miami born 1/2 Cuban/Irish I just consider myself Latino. That is the great thing about the Caribbean, the mix of culture and race.
WOW!!!! you guys are soooo dumb! Many Taino's and Ciboney amerindians in Cuba mixed with sapniards to create mestizo children. In eastern Cuba in Baracoa there is a significant remnance of Taino blood. There have been DNA tests in Cuba and Puerto Rico proving that there are still remnants of Taino in most Cubans and Puerto Ricans, not to mention mixes with Africans. I am Cuban-Chinese being that my great grandfather was Cuban but originated from China. So Cubans are therefore considered Hipanic not caucasion!

Well i guess your right i was born in cuba and came to this country a few years ago. My mother's dad's parents are were native Spaniards that migrated to cuba and so were my father's mom's parents. I actually have skin that is white as milk, amber/brown/hazel eyes, and brown hair with parts of blonde and auburn. I agree with the person that created this ballot not one single person in my family is black or mixed or anything near it. I have blue eyed, green eyed, amber eyed, light brown eyed people in my family. Also blondes, red hairs, brunettes, and black haired with hazel eyes in my family. :)

They are both, as Hispanics are just defined as people who speak Spanish. But they majority are White, despite most of them claiming minority status.
And they are the most disgusting group of human beings I've ever had the distinct displeasure of dealing with in my life. If the island of Cuba sank while nearly ever Cuban in Miami was there visiting on holiday, the world would be a much better place. Or if a hurricane came and somehow magically wiped out the majority of them (and just saved the ones who defy the standard), the world would be a much more pleasant place and Miami would be a city that wasn't sinking into sh!t anymore.
Both, hispanic is not a race it is a enthicity. It simply denotes that one is spanish speaking or from a country which was colonized or has asimilated to some degree to spanish culture. It is sort of like using the world Anglo to describe someone from the USA,Canada,Jamaica, Belize, Austrailia regardless of their lineage

An American can be white, black, asian, indian etc. Same shit could be said for Cubans some are white some are black some are indian some are chinese and some are mixed however all are HISPANIC/LATINO. People immigrated to Cuba heavily until the 1930s. I know a lebanese-Cuban, afro-cuban and chinese cuban with the last name chang.
