God, we can only hope so. All the sound Americans can come over to blighty as refugees (seen as though theres only a few thousand). We can leave all the biggots to rot!
It's a scary thought, and has certainly crossed my mind. History has shown us that the most sophisticated of societies have met with their own demise due to simple thinking. I don't believe the mass majority of Americans support these ideas, Bush's. Yet, he seems to dance around issues as severe as war crimes, outed CIA agents and illiterateness, with the greatest of ease. It's crazy considering the circus they created over Clinton's BJ, impeachment hearings, WTF. I think it really goes to show that the religious right is a lot more heinously manipulative, using the very strategies their good book preaches against.

Makes me think of the fall of the Roman Empire, only those dudes didn't have cable, junk food or Britney Spears. Maybe those'll save us?

"Makes me think of the fall of the Roman Empire" -mojo Interesting comment mojo. History is important. Those who don't learn history are doomed to repeat its mistakes. Many scholars attribute the fall of the Roman Empire to the collapse of its military and a succession of weak leaders. Military service was not considered important and the ranks were then filled by slaves and the dregs of the society. Then you have Nero who played the fiddle while Rome burned.
I hate to say it, but I have wondered the same thing. The country seems to be gripped in some kind of sickness which leaves rationality behind. A terrible combination of hubris and ignorance seems to have taken hold of way too many people, here. Unless it changes, I fear we will continue to devolve until ... who knows. I am hoping that Regime Change in 2004 will help.
MO: Well put!
US is like coucgnome the world is never gettin rid of it

The dudes at the end of the Roman Empire had no Britney Spears, mojo? Oh my god! Lucky...THEM!
WHy do you people keep calling your country America? America is a group of continents, not a country.
Military service was not considered important and the ranks were then filled by slaves and the dregs of the society. by supposable thumbs. The Roman Army was a professional army and they were the best trained in the world. It was certainly not filled with slaves. And you see fit to lecture me on the importance of history? Do a bit of research and then tell me that the Roman army was filled with the dregs of society, supposable ignoramus.
Israel tries to bring down America with him. But I hope America will eventually survive and prosper.
The Roman Empire lasted 676 years people.
Bush sucks.
Far from it. In fact, I belive that the 20th century was the American century and I firmly belive that the 21st Century will be the American century as well.
Due to the welfare state,low-no standards on imigration policy and the simple fact that life is easier now America is overpopulating with dumber people and the burdens associated with that are slowly but surely creating a tilting scale for the worse. On a bright note sciences in the genetic fields for humans may resolve much of this. However in the meantime the deer will stare at the oncoming headlights as they always do.
